About StudyMates
Silent online study rooms, so no one has to study alone
StudyMates is an online study room where students from more than 50 countries study side by side on live video. Cameras are on, microphones are off, and the rooms are open 24 hours a day. You join, you see real people working, and you get on with your own work.
Why we built it
Most students know what they should study. The hard part is starting, and then staying with it once the phone lights up or the room goes quiet. Libraries and study groups help because other people are working around you, but they are not open at 3 AM, and not everyone lives near one.
StudyMates brings that effect online. Seeing someone else concentrating makes it easier to concentrate yourself. It is often called body doubling; students just call it studying together. There is no talking and no lecture: the room is simply a place where everyone has agreed to focus.
How a session works
- Sign in and pick a room.
- Turn your camera on. Your microphone stays off for everyone, always.
- Press start on your focus timer and study. Your time is logged to your calendar and streak.
- Leave whenever you like and come back tomorrow to keep the streak going.

Deep Focus Room
Heads down, no distractions. The room for essays, exam preparation and anything else that needs your whole attention.
Casual Study Room
Still silent, but more social: follow people, send a quiet encouragement, and build a circle of study partners over time.
Late Night Grind
Three in the morning in Delhi is noon in London and midnight in Singapore. Someone is always studying, so this room never closes.

The free plan includes 45 minutes a day in the public study room. Pro removes the daily limit and opens every room, along with pinning, encouragements, chat and streak statistics.

Safe and respectful by design
Microphones are disabled in every room, so nobody can be talked over or shouted at. You can hide, block or report anyone, and every room follows our community rules. Your study data stays private, as described in our privacy policy.
